Sandollar Alpacas is a full-service alpaca farm. If you need one or more alpaca related products or services, we are either able to provide it or direct you to the appropriate alternative resource. Check out some of our services and products below.
Breeding Stock Sales - You will find a variety of premium breeding quality alpacas at Sandollar Alpacas. All of our female alpacas are sold with a reproductive warranty. Some can be purchased already bred; some can be purchased with breedings to the buyer's choice of wholly owned herdsire; and some are sold with a recent cria at side.
Fiber Quality and Companion Pet Quality Alpaca Sales - We also have a wonderful selection of Sandollar Alpacas that can be purchased at a reduced cost for those customers who are more interested in the fiber arts or family pets suitable for 4-H projects.
Herdsire Services - Sandollar Alpacas has a stellar line-up of studs available. Whether you are looking for a top quality, nationally known huacaya or suri herdsire, white or colored, check out the Sandollar Herdsire Row. We offer top quality breedings at competitive rates, with discounts available for multiple breedings. We accept females on the ranch for breeding based on our own health protocol, and the fee includes 60 days of agistment as well as a confirmation of pregnancy. Mobile breedings are also available; call for details.
Alpaca Education - Here at Sandollar Alpacas, we believe an informed customer is a strong customer. We offer quarterly full day seminars free of charge. The morning session is devoted to a discussion about the alpaca history and industry; while the afternoon session is devoted to alpaca husbandry and handling. Check our website's calendar of events for our next scheduled event.
Training - Nikki is an approved Camelidynamics® Handler in Marty McGee Bennett's Apprentice Practitioner Program. If you need assistance learning how to handle your alpacas appropriately, Nikki offers free one-hour lessons using Camelidynamics® approved training methods. And if you need help training your alpacas for the showring, call Nikki. She will work out a fee depending on the alpaca's history and what needs to be done.
Fiber, Yarn and Product Sales at the Leather Sandollar - At Sandollar Alpacas, our raw fleece is processed each year into a variety of products. We have roving, yarns, unique and custom designed felted projects as well as large project size felts made on our new FeltLoom; rug yarns available in a variety of colors and styles. Some of our yarn each year goes to creating specialty items for our ranch store, The Leather Sandollar. Come in and browse our current selection of Extreme Warmth® Socks, the Sandollar Alpacas' Heirloom Luxury® Blanket, hats, mittens and gloves, toys, etc. We are also introducing in 2011 a collection of herbs grown on the ranch which are dried and packaged for sale as teas.
Fiber Arts Classes - Sandollar Alpacas is proud to host several local talented fiber arts educators' classes in spinning and weaving. Check our Calendar of Events page on our website for upcoming classes.
Daily Farm Tours - Sandollar Alpacas is pleased to schedule private ranch tours at your convenience for individuals and groups. Just call Collins a day ahead at 509-378-5833. The ranch is closed on Mondays.
Birthing - Whenever you need birthing services, Sandollar Alpacas is available. Our late term dams and those with new crias at side are stationed in the maternity paddock closest to our house so that we are able to keep an eagle eye on things.
Boarding - We accept visiting alpacas for agistment, and rates depend on the length of the agistment. Short term agistment (30-90 days) is available at the rate of $2.75 per day and includes all daily care as well as normal herd maintenance at scheduled intervals; routine veterinary care is available and is billed to the owner separately. Longer term agistment is available at somewhat lower rates; call for more details. We care for your alpacas in exactly the same way we care for ours. (NOTE: In emergency situations, all efforts are made to contact the owner to determine the Owner's desires. In the event we are unable to contact the Owner, we make the decision as to whether to contact the veterinarian.)
Shearing - We shear annually during the first full weekend in May. A professional shearer, one whom we have used for the last four years, is brought in. He shears all of our alpacas standing up in about 7 minutes each, resulting in minimal stress to the alpaca. Sandollar Alpacas also runs a "Paca Taxi" Service. If you do not have your own transportation, we will pick up your alpacas and return them when they are done. Costs depend on type of shearing (show blanket vs standard cut) and whether you bring them or we pick up your alpacas. Additional services can be arranged (vaccinations, worming, pedicures, topknot trimming) at an additional cost. Later in the summer, we often bring in another shearer to do those new crias, or those camelids that were't able to make it to the first shearing. We accept, cash, check and credit card payments.
Miscellaneous - Need a product or service not shown here? Call us and if we can't answer your question, we will attempt to direct you to the appropriate resource. For example, we can direct you to all of the veterinarians in the area who accept camelid patients; as well as direct you to hay suppliers we have used as well as where we find the most cost effective location of supplies.
